Map of the Soul 7: The Journey is the fourth Japanese studio album by South Korean boy group BTS. It was released on July 15, 2020, through Universal Music Japan. The album features a total of 13 tracks, including Japanese versions of the group's hit songs "ON" and "Black Swan".
Map of the Soul 7: The Journey also features four new original tracks: "Stay Gold", "Your eyes tell", "Outro: The Journey", and "INTRO : Calling". "Stay Gold" was released as the lead promotional single and was written as the soundtrack for the Japanese drama series, Spiral Labyrinth – DNA Forensic Investigation. "Your eyes tell" was composed by Jungkook and written by his fellow bandmate Jimin, and it was also used as the ending song for the Japanese film, Your Eyes Tell.
The album debuted at number one on the Oricon Albums Chart and Billboard Japan Hot Albums Chart, making it BTS's fourth consecutive Japanese album to achieve this feat. Map of the Soul 7: The Journey also became the best-selling Japanese album in 2020, selling over one million copies in its first week of release.
The album title, Map of the Soul, is a reference to Carl Jung's theory of the same name, which explores the journey of self-discovery and the development of the psyche. The album delves into themes of self-reflection, self-acceptance, and the idea that the journey towards understanding oneself is never-ending.
